This summer, AnaVation welcomed seven bright and motivated interns to work alongside our team on exciting projects. Recently, our interns wrapped up their internship experience with a final showcase of their projects and demos. After ten weeks of hands-on development, our two talented intern teams took ideas from concept to execution. This teamwork demonstrated innovation, adaptability, and strong collaboration. The project demos highlighted not just what was built and their technical achievements, but what was learned. Here’s a closer look at the impressive work each team accomplished:
Shadownet Analyzer
The Shadownet Analyzer team built an application designed to ingest, query, and analyze financial transactions linked to illicit activities on dark web marketplaces. The goal of this tool is to help financial analysts uncover hidden patterns in transaction data, flag anomalies that may signal fraud or money laundering, and speed up investigations by visualizing relationships that would otherwise be difficult to detect manually.
The application batch processes historical transaction records and stores the results in a database. Analysts access the application through a web browser, where they can query and analyze transaction nodes and review calculated risk scores. In addition, the team also built an integrated chatbot feature that helps filter, map, and sort data.
The project required coordination across many components. The tech stack included a React and Vite front-end interface, Cytoscape and TanStack libraries for visualization, a FastAPI and Python backend, PostgreSQL and RDS for data management, and Nginx and EC2 for infrastructure. The team also worked with a variety of AWS services.
The team shared that they learned a lot throughout the process of building Shadownet Analyzer together. They were most proud of building a full-stack project from the ground up, learning to apply Agile methodology, working with AWS for cloud infrastructure, designing and building a chatbot, and most importantly, creating a user-focused product for analysts centered on real-world usability.
OverWatch
The OverWatch team created a real-time collaborative tactical map web application accessible from any modern browser, designed to give teams a shared dynamic map. Within this environment, users can join a session, add pins, draw zones, and include notes directly on the map while also seeing others’ changes instantly. The key components of this system include a WebSocket engine for collaboration, role-based authentication system, session management, and data management for dependable performance. The goal of OverWatch is to increase clarity, usability, and visibility during planning scenarios, and enable reviewing past events for users. OverWatch improves communication and planning by eliminating reliance on screenshots, email chains, or informal conversations during operational mapping and will provide a shared live view for those with access permissions.
The team built the application using TypeScript, React, and Next.js, along with React Konva for the map canvas. The backend and cloud components use AWS services including Amplify SDK, Cognito, AppSync, DynamoDB, Lambda, and CloudFormation.
AnaVation is incredibly proud of the motivation, ingenuity, and technical excellence our interns demonstrated throughout the summer. Each intern contributed to a product that presented realistic challenges and required rapid learning of new technologies and thoughtful decision-making to create an impactful platform. Their projects reflected the kind of innovation and growth we value at AnaVation. This was another successful internship year.
