Our 2024 summer interns kicked off their internship by diving right into a week-long development of their hackathon projects. This year’s hackathon theme was Hacking for Education. The goal was to gamify education and make learning more engaging, enjoyable, and effective. After days of brainstorming, coding, and refining their projects, two dynamic teams emerged with groundbreaking ideas that impressed us all. We are thrilled to share the highlights of this event and the innovative solutions our interns developed.

Team Nye – Chordability

Team Nye, inspired by their love for music, created Chordability—an online interactive tool designed to assist users in mastering chords, a fundamental aspect of learning the guitar. Chordability offers two main features; Chord Recognition to enhance users’ ability to identify chords and Cord Transition to help users practice transitioning between chords smoothly. This tool also provides songs for users to play along with, making the learning process both enjoyable and affordable.

Team Nye’s approach was methodical and collective. They divided tasks based on their strengths, with one member focusing on chord recognition and the other on chord transitions. Regular meetings ensured constant feedback and kept everyone on track. Their seamless teamwork and communication were key to their success.

Through their projects, the team learned the importance of overcommunication in team projects. Frequent updates and feedback helped them stay accountable and refine their product continuously.

Team Frizzle – Progress Pal

Team Frizzle focused their project on academic progress tracking with Progress Pal. The website allows K-12 students to track their progress, compare it with peers, and stay motivated through a point-system based experience. Key features include; Leaderboard that allows students and professors to monitor progress and Personal Achievements/Badges to encourage students to keep progressing with fun incentives. Progress Pal aims to address common classroom challenges, such as retaining students’ attention and reducing phone distractions, by making learning interactive and rewarding.

Team Frizzle’s journey began with identifying pain points in the current educational system. They used Canva to design their platform, ensuring a user-friendly interface. By dividing tasks among team members and continuously checking in, they managed to integrate their parts seamlessly.

This team also learned the critical role of communication for success. Collaborating on technical projects taught them valuable lessons in teamwork and the use of various technologies like Flask, SQLite, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

And the Winner Is… A Tie!

Both teams delivered outstanding presentations, impressing our judges with their creativity and team collaboration skills. The innovative solutions and flawless presentations made it difficult for the judges to choose a single winner. For the first time in AnaVation’s history, we declared a tie! Each team was rewarded with a gift card prize for their amazing efforts.

Congratulations to Team Nye and Team Frizzle for their hard work and inspiring projects! Your work has not only showcased your skills but also set a new benchmark for future interns. We are excited to see how these projects evolve and continue to impact the world of education. We believe that by fostering creativity and teamwork, we can drive change and create a brighter future.

Stay tuned for more updates from our talented interns at AnaVation!
